The idea of building a 15-storey high rise was born out of creativity and determination. He was not given a brief or a job to design for anyone so he designed for himself. The idea that you can buy or lease land, design, finance and build is how this iconic building was developed. At the time it was built over 25 years ago, there were not many high rises in Ikoyi, Lagos. The majority were in Lagos Island, Marina Street and Broad Street area.
Standing very visible as you enter or leave Ikoyi, it is a masterpiece in terms of the design as it stands in the skyline blending in with newer buildings. The simple two-tone signature colour of his is visible in this concrete work of art. Mosaic tiles are used to avoid constant painting. All the building needs is a ‘wash’ every once in a while.
